Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Verified by Apni Kala" mean?

The "Verified by Apni Kala" badge indicates that the artisan's identity and contact information have been reviewed and verified. It also confirms that the artisan is actively engaged in the creation, promotion, or preservation of traditional Indian crafts and agrees to represent their work responsibly through the platform.

What are Creations?

Creations are handcrafted pieces available for purchase. They may be available exactly as displayed or can often be customized to suit your requirements.

What are Collections?

Collections showcase designs, inspirations, and artistic expressions from the artisan's craft journey. They help buyers understand the possibilities, styles, and versatility of the art form. Collections are not necessarily available for immediate purchase.

Can artisans customize products?

In many cases, yes. Artisans may be able to customize colors, sizes, patterns, themes, materials, or designs. Please contact the artisan directly to discuss your requirements.

How long does it take to receive an order?

If the item is already available, artisans can often dispatch it within 7-10 days. If a new piece needs to be created, the process may take longer depending on the complexity of the work and the artisan's schedule. Handcrafted work takes time, and every creation is made with care.

Why may the final price differ from the displayed price?

The displayed price is intended as a guide. The final price may vary based on customization requirements, availability and cost of raw materials, packaging requirements, shipping destination, and quantity ordered.

Are handcrafted products exactly identical?

No. Minor variations in color, texture, dimensions, brush strokes, weaving patterns, or finishing are natural characteristics of handmade work. These variations are not defects; they are part of what makes every handcrafted creation unique.

What payment methods are accepted?

Payment arrangements are made directly between the buyer and the artisan. Available payment methods may vary from artisan to artisan. UPI is a generally accepted payment method

What is the return and refund policy?

Return, exchange, and refund policies are determined by individual artisans. Before placing an order, we recommend discussing return eligibility, exchange options, cancellation terms, and shipping responsibilities directly with the artisan.

Why can handcrafted products take longer than factory-made products?

Most artisans work from homes, villages, small workshops, or artisan collectives. Unlike large factories, they often work with limited resources and small teams. Each piece is individually crafted and may require several stages of manual work.

What if I face a serious issue with an order?

As transactions take place directly between buyers and artisans, Apni Kala is not a party to the transaction. However, for serious concerns or unresolved issues, you may write to info@apnikala.com. We will try to help facilitate communication and support a fair resolution wherever possible.

Can I visit the artisan in person?

Some artisans welcome visitors to their workshops or villages by prior arrangement. Please contact the artisan directly to check availability and make arrangements.

Why should I avoid bargaining excessively?

Many artisans invest significant time, skill, and effort into each creation. A small price difference may not mean much to the buyer, but it can make a meaningful difference to the artisan and their family. We encourage respectful conversations that recognize the value of handmade work.

Why should I choose handmade products?

Handmade creations carry the story, skill, and personality of the artisan behind them. By choosing handcrafted work, you support traditional skills, local communities, and cultural heritage while owning something truly unique.
